Later the same day we had the opportunity or I guess you could call it the responsability to visit the Place Rene Cassin in Gordes. A tall glass mosaic sculpture by Frederique Duran, on loan from the Musee du Vitrail, Gordes, Vaucluse turned out upon a strong breath of breeze to be a cleverly designed windvane, which also provided additional decoration f or the most beautiful Gendarmerie in all of France, at least of those I have visited.
As I was waiting outside for I & J to file the police report on our visit to the village des Bories, I was able to further engage the local residentatii in colorful and informative (at least to me) conversation.
Espying two somewhat elderly couples foolishly heading uphill in the deadly broiling sun that kept me in the breezy shade guarding the car, I noticed one of the men had a stomach-sling in which he was carrying his small dog up the hot hill.
I bravely engaged him (them) in conversation with my forgotten but internet-augmented high school French, and was able to discover that this charming and apparently quaint mad practice is actually quite common in the countryside. They understood my meaning quite clearly even though on later reflection I realized that what I actually had said was "I never file a lawsuit against a female dog."
