Act of Revenge
1999 by Robert K. Tanenbaum

Lucy, the linguistically gifted daughter of PI Marlene Ciampi and her husband Butch Karp, Managing District Attorney for the City of New York, is eyewitness to a triad gangland slaying in Chinatown. Unfortunately, the hit man sees her. When he cannot determine whether she will keep quiet about what she has seen, he arranges to have her kidnapped. The gang of Vietnamese tough guys he hires are no match for the Karp family friend and protector Tran, who recovers her.

Tough, loving, sometimes quite over the top, this is the enjoyable (tenth, eleventh?) in the ongoing family series, filled with legal standoffs, conundrums, the examination of morality and family relationships, and various preposterous hijinks by the whole gang, including the lovable, slobbering and quite fierce family mastiff, Sweety.
