"Mark my Words" are all I remember of Irene's wonderful quote which I took note of, along with the date and location, on the same sheet of paper with the airlines we had seen while waiting on the late-arriving Air France flight to take us directly and quickly to Paris, so that we could continue our support of France's criminal element, or as they would call it, "element criminelle."
My command of French in actual situations isn't anything like my grasp of the language but nonetheless I was able to explain an unusual phenomenon to a woman on the plane who spoke only French.
With the aid of a hand gesture, I explained to her that "at this time of year, the curve of the line of night and day was followed closely by the aircraft's line of flight on the surface of the earth, and so therefore we would have a very long near-sunset and it would never get fully dark."
She onlyn helped me with one word in French I didn't know, which I simply asked her, "quelle est la mot pour 'day'?'Bonjour!
Oddly enough, as I page through the journal I have found a quotation attributed to Irene M. Girton, dated Friday, July 13, 2001, and perhaps this is the quote. Here is what she said:
"It would be nice to spend money on something besides dog incontinence."
This is certainly a sentiment with which to begin an adventure, and a good one, as we shall see.
"Les murs sont trop mouilles pars l'ours qui a trop bu."
