Fodor's How to Pack : Expert Share Their Secrets by Laurel Cardone

This book changed the way I prepare for trips, so in a sense it completely changed my vacation and business life. My seven-year-old used the "checklist for kids" to create a checklist for his own packing on our last vacation. It contributed substantially to his peace of mind, sense of participation, and gave him some fun ideas for stuff to bring along that helped him have a better time. It's mainly a book for grownups, though, so perhaps you can experience the same effect..

The book was unavailable for a while, and the minimal refrigerator magnet mini book was an extremely poor substitute, if a novel concept. Stick with the green-covered "how to pack" book, and you'll be better off.

I'd have to say the truly key idea that really helped is: plan your packing. Don't leave it to the last minute, and use checklists. The book also showed how to fold clothes so they won't wrinkle, and has a wealth of other details.
