If you like popular music, here are some favorite popular CDs and a few blasts from the past, too.
Some of these albums are absolute treasures, well worth having them with you at all times, and some I have only extracted one song. I'll come back later on and tell you which is which, but for now here's the list.

Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf (1739-1799) Sinfonias on Ovid's Metamorphoses, #1-#3 Symphony 1 has been particularly uplifting after the September 11, 2001 attacks. Try it, you'll see what I mean. What's 8 or 9 dollars, really, if it makes you feel even slightly better? I've listened to this one a lot, it just get better each time.

Viviana Guzmn Planet Flute
Funny what can happen. I read a prudish review of this album. The reviewer didn't want to see Viviana Guzmn naked on the cover of her album. Evidently this poor hapless ignorant individual had never seen a Herbie Mann album in her life. One naked Herbie cover after another! Herbie's 'Push Push' album cover even had Herbie doing it. No one said a word.
I was so outraged that I bought Viviana Guzmn's Planet Flute. Anyway, why wouldn't I? I've played the flute all my life. Interestingly enough, I enjoyed just about every piece on this recording. So, I carry it with me everywhere I go just in case I want to listen to some world flute music.
I got this album for one reason only: Maria Muldaur's popular song "Midnight at the Oasis". Imagine my surprise to find that every song on the CD was just as good, or even better! Maria really hit this one out of the ballpark, so if you liked Midnight at the Oasis, go ahead and buy this CD, even though it xxoxoxxox0 years old it's timeless.
Bobby Mcferrin Simple Pleasures
Bobby McFerrin Spontaneous Inventions
Cannonball Adderley Mercy, Mercy, Mercy! Here's Julian 'Cannonball' Adderly's intro to the title track of this album: "You know, sometimes we're not prepared for adversity. When it happens sometimes we're caught short. We don't know exactly how to handle it, when it comes up. Sometimes we don't know just what to do when adversity takes over. And I have advice for all of us. I got it from my pianist Joe Zawinul who wrote this tune. And it sounds like what you're supposed to say when you have that kind of problem. It's called Mercy Mercy Mercy."
Dr. Didg Out Of The Woods
Hubert Laws The Best Of Hubert Laws Hubert Laws is one of the finest flute players that ever lived, as any fool can plainly hear. Thanks again, Hubert.
Les McCann & Eddie Harris Swiss Movement
Miles Davis In A Silent Way The classic peaceful Miles just before he wacked out, with Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul, and some other guy on keyboards. Who was that fella? Oh, now I remember, Herbie Hancock. Sorry, Dr. Hancock! If you don't know this album, it could be a pivotal moment in your jazz education. As a bonus, you can listen to it over 30 years: you'll just love it more and more.
Paulo Moura e os Batutas Pixinguinha Paulo Moura is the only living musician to have a yearly music festival named after him. He plays the clarinet in Brazil where he is a national hero. After you listen to this CD, you'll know why.
