Trying on shoes.
Joe and I went down some stairs to get to the elevator, I going in one door, he another. It was the second elevator we were taking, to get down to the subway. But when the doors opened, it was a small operated subway car individually operated by a woman. I don’t specifically remember it but it seemed familiar.

First he jumped on and it started to move, but she brought it back for me to get on. There wasn’t room for anyone else who had been waiting at the elevator door. We went down the subway tunnel a little ways and then got off in a workroom.

There Joe tried on some cork-soled shoes which were too small for him, so after wasting some time with that, we decided to go ahead with the cork soled shoes he was wearing already. Maybe we were going down further in the mine.

Some fellow there extolled the virtues of his own cork soled boots which were very soft-stepping, although hot.
