Play with your Pumpkins
by Joost Elffers and Saxton Freymann

A new method of carving pumpkins has been discovered! You simply turn the pumpkin on its side, and the stem becomes the nose!

This is a much more realistic design than cutting the nose out as a hole.

The classic design is better for illumination, but in daylight, the new stem-nosed pumpkins have enormous character. The samples in this brief photo-book are well worth the effort of obtaining the book.

My nine-year-old was so taken with this book that I was not able to wrest it away from him to send it to my friend Pete in Cazenovia, New York. It's too bad, too, because one of the pumpkins looks just like Pete!

There's some pumpkin history and symbology, and there are quite a few scrumptous-looking pumpkin recipes in the back, too. The pumpkin pasta recipe in particular looks like a great companion dish to boiled mirliton.

Go ahead! Carve your way on over to amazon.com and Play with your Pumpkins.
