Late yesterday afternoon, a couple of hours after the careening car in Santa Monica ran through a farmers market spreading mayhem and taking lives, the phone rang. It was the Red Cross, looking to ask one of its local donors (it wasn't me, by the way) to drop by a little earlier than usual in their yearly schedule.

Just something to think about. By the way, there's a pretty amazing thunderstorm going on right now over at the Red Cross website.
