Wigs can be made of wool, feathers, synthetic, and horsehair. There are also human hair wigs available. These can be used for aesthetic purposes like disguising balding hair or falling hair caused by chemotherapy. Today, I am in the mood to research about wigs since my favorite aunt has been shopping for one. By the way, she is a cancer survivor. I wouldn’t be as interested in wigs if I did not have any relatives in need of human hair wigs. Anyway, here are some things I learned.
Apparently, periwig is the longer term for “wig”. As mentioned earlier, these are made from various materials. For a cheaper alternative, you can use yak hair. I found out that yak hair closely resembles human hair wigs, but for a less expensive cost.
In the early years, Egyptians used to have shaved heads. In order for them to protect their heads, they used wigs. Later on, wigs are used in theatres so that actors can portray varying roles better.
Later on, the use of wigs was not put on hold—so to speak. However, time came that people from the early days had to use human hair wigs to hide their balding heads. Moreover, I discovered that shaving hair to avoid head lice was a reason people used wigs before.
